Chat Safe
We take the safety of our users seriously. However we acknowledge that safeguarding is very difficult in the realm of Internet usage. To ensure the maximum safety we can, we have implemented the following rules that we require all users to adhere to.
- We do not allow under 16s to chat here without parental consent. Where we suspect that a chatter is under this age we endeavour to obtain that consent and if it is not forthcoming the user will be removed from the site.
- We have strict guidelines about the content of chat and have a team of volunteer monitors who keep an eye on things and have the power to mute, remove or ban users who violate these conditions. We can monitor private messages and web cams too, so if you receive an abusive PM or see anything inappropriate on cam please report it to us and we can act upon it. Please enclose the name of the abusing chatter, the nature of the offense and the date and time.
- Our monitors are contactable by email at any time. Our email addresses consist of our user name @christianstogether.co.uk (eg. Kazz@christianstogether.co.uk)
- All our monitors are vetted and provide References from church leaders and others who know them well. (We do not accept references from other chatters) We also only appoint people who we have known for some time in chat and have seen them in action.
- Our designated Safeguarding officers are Kazz and Jackie, who both have current CRB checks and training in child protection/ safeguarding. If you suspect anything with regard to safeguarding of children or vulnerable adults please pass your concerns on to them. No matter how small or trivial, please pass all concerns to them and allow them to decide on the action necessary.
- If we suspect any illegal activity is occurring on our site we will not hesitate to involve the police or any other authority concerned.
- We have a system in place for reporting any activity that is of concern that occurs while the room is unmonitored. We ask that when you send reports of this nature to us you send the chat history with your report. You can access the chat history by clicking on the speech bubble icon above the user list in the room, then copy and paste into a word document.
- If a chatter starts to disclose anything that is of concern please follow these guidelines.
- Never promise confidentiality. Always stop the person and explain that if you suspect they are in danger or that you are disclosing abuse it is your legal responsibility to report it.
- Never ask leading questions as to who did this or what they did. E.g. don't ask was it your Father/Mother etc. and don't ask did he /she touch you in an intimate place? Just listen and then pass your concerns to the Safeguarding officers. It may help if you take notes while they are speaking so you don't remember it wrong.
- If someone confides in you that they are suicidal please do pass this information to us so we can watch them and offer the support that is necessary.
- Please remember we are NOT counsellors and the best course of action is often to point these people to organisations who CAN help them.
- Of course our first action is always to take it to the Lord in prayer.
We have included a number of professional organisations that may be able to help with a range of issues. These organisations are UK based.
If a user tells you that they are in immediate danger or under threat they should be advised to call the police on 999 for the emergency service.
If a user tells you they have serious medical symptoms they should always be advised to first seek medical advice either by contacting their local doctors surgery, NHS Direct or emergency ambulance on 999
